Redi-Rips from Hardwoods of Michigan Inc.

About Redi-Rips

From the very beginning, Redi-Rips has continued to invest in new equipment to better our products and become more efficient. Our sawmill uses band saws and scanner technology to maximize our yields from a precious raw material. Our drying facility consists of over 3,000,000 feet of pre-dryer capacity and 700,000 feet of kilns. This combination of equipment under one roof allows Redi-Rips to fully control the drying process.

Additional technological improvements - cameras, lasers and computers -  feed ripsaws with moving blades in our kiln dried lumber processing area. This technology assures our customer, and us, the highest possible yields. The equipment, along wtih a commitment to pursue new technologies, allows us to continue to produce quality lumber and lumber products efficiently. We continue to pass these efficiencies on to our many valued customers.

Yield Improvement

Ripping yields can be unpredictable. Rip yields for random width lumber are influenced by lumber tally, lumber widths, lumber quality, cutting orders, operator decisions and more. You need to know your exact yield for pricing decisions and margin calculations. With REDI-RIPS™ you don't have to concern yourself with guessing at rip yields. You receive exactly what rips you need. By combining your cutting orders with other customers' needs, (we service over 400 customers) we achieve extremely high yields.  With REDI-RIPS™ the high yield cost benefits are passed on to you.

Increase Inventory Turns

The costs of carrying inventories concern all companies. The lower the inventory, the lower the cost. With REDI-RIPS™ your raw material is all usable (as opposed to random width lumber). Your mix of inventory is all usable, and you are not producing slow moving finished goods. As a result, with REDI-RIPS™, you carry less inventory and reduce your overhead. Unlike random width lumber, with REDI-RIPS™ you will know exactly how much inventory you have for your products.

The Question is Not "Why REDI-RIPS™?". The question is ... "Why Random Width Lumber?"

Why HMI

WHY HMI

Value Gain

Many people will boast about their rip yield. What they are getting is fiber recovery. If your concern is yield only, you will achieve high fiber recovery. However, in doing so you may be producing rips that are not immediately needed and not producing the rip sizes you do need. The rips you are producing are often your lowest value product (i.e narrow). The rips you are not producing are often the most valuable (i.e wide, clear, long etc.). With REDI-RIPS™ you order the widths you need. There is no more guess work, no lack of needed widths, no inventory of slow moving widths.

Integration

Hardwoods of Michigan, Inc. is a fully integrated hardwood manufacturing facility. We purchase and harvest our own timber. We produce our own lumber with our sawmills. We dry, plane, rip and package our lumber within one facility, producing approximately 2,000,000 bdft of lumber per month. This integration allows us to control quality from the stump to your door.

Cost of Waste Removal

What do you do with the waste from your ripsaw? Do you grind it? Do you throw it in a dumpster? Burn it? Regardless of how you handle your ripsaw waste, it is costing you money! Why pay for waste, then pay for its removal? With REDI-RIPS™ there is NO ripsaw waste, and NO cost to remove it.

Reduce Freight Costs

Freight prices are a growing concern. If you are purchasing Random Width lumber you are charged freight on 20-30% waste. The further you are from the primary manufacturer, the higher the cost. With REDI-RIPS™ you are only paying freight on usable product.

Experience

We have been producing lumber at our Clinton, MI facility since 1969. Many of our current employees began their hardwood lumber career when the company was first started. Our current staff of 18 managers and officers have over 300 years combined experience, not just in the lumber business, but at HMI.

Reduce Labor Costs

At Hardwoods of Michigan, Inc. we surface, scan, rip, tally and package lumber on one line, in one operation. We process approximately 2,000,000 bdft of lumber monthly. We process 20 boards per minute. This efficient operation makes our overall cost to rip very competitive. When you purchase REDI-RIPS™ you share in this efficiency and the lower costs are passed on to you.

Reputation

Over the past 30 years, we have earned a reputation for integrity and professionalism. We value our relationship with over 400 customers and they value our commitment to service them.

Month in and month out, year in and year out, we ship quality products to these customers maintaining a 95% or higher "on time shipment rating."
